The General Counsel (GC) reports directly to the Chancellor and is the primary legal advisor to, and primary legal representative of, the school system. As such, the GC has three main responsibilities. First, the GC provides guidance to the Chancellor and her senior leadership team on a vast array of complex legal issues. Because Company is often at the forefront of education policy, the GC is regularly asked to grapple with legal matters that have not been previously settled in either the District of Columbia (DC) or the federal context.
