To process and control claims litigation and expenses. Supervise the technical handling of liability claim files that are in suit. Direct defense counsel with respect to handling suit files. Negotiate pending suits with plaintiff counsel, traveling when necessary. Provide research and counsel when necessary for claims problems. Serve as branch legal liaison providing technical advice to field litigation staff. Participate in quality assurance file review of field litigation. Exercise claim settlement authority as defined by department management.
