At the direction of the President, the Vice President for Legal Affairs & General Counsel (VPLA) is a senior administrative official responsible for managing the institution’s legal affairs and supervising its Environmental Health and Conservation department. The VPLA provides legal advice and guidance to the President, when necessary to the Board of Trustees, and to senior administrators; manages matters in litigation; coordinates external counsel; and manages with the VP for Financial Affairs & Treasurer (VPFA) the funding for external legal counsel and legal affairs. The VPLA also reviews and negotiates contracts relating to the institution’s operations including real estate, delivery of ancillary services and third-party agreements and represents the institution in all legal matters concerning compliance with municipal, state, and federal regulations, funding agencies, and in labor related issues.
