Description

The Vice President, Associate General Counsel for Printing leads the legal team serving the Inkjet/Graphics and LaserJet/Enterprise Solutions global business units. Acts as a key advisor to executive management in influencing the strategic direction of Printing - a business which drives roughly $25B in annual revenue. The primary clients are the Senior Vice Presidents of Inkjet/Graphics and LaserJet/Enterprise Solutions. This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel, Printing and Personal Systems (“PPS”) in the Office of General Counsel. The Printing team consists of roughly 11 people, mostly lawyers, with some paralegals and contract negotiators. The overall PPS team totals 32 persons.

Manages key legal issues and develops strategy and sets policy and direction. Owns a significant number of measurable functional, operational and strategic goals, priorities and initiatives for PPS, and will work frequently with his/her peer leaders of the other global business unit legal functions. Responsible for operational success, strategic alignment and integration of activities with other major organizational functions.

Responsibilities
· Manages the full range of legal strategies and responsibilities, and the legal team, for the Printing global business units.
· Sets the strategy for the workgroup in alignment with the larger Legal organization and PPS.
· Develop people by (a) putting right people in right roles and opportunities and (b) clear success criteria and reward/recognition structure.
· Drive regional implementation of the agreed transformation activities as they are developed - act as a pilot/early adopter whenever feasible.
· Leads complex, multidimensional projects, transactions, or problem resolution that spans legal, business, and functional boundaries (e.g., cross geographies, subject matter areas, jurisdictions, organizations and business models).
· Oversees the alignment of critical resources to high risk areas based on understanding the strategies and goals of HP and the Legal Department.
· Acts as a thought leader in the local/regional environment by advising on highly complex laws and regulations and their wide-reaching implications for the local/regional operations/businesses.
· Leads implementation of innovative process and policy improvements, proposals, or changes that align with business needs.
· Exerts influence on external industry counsels, policies, and regulatory bodies in area of specialization.

Qualifications

Education
· Advanced university degree in law (e.g. JD or LLB).
· Meets local legal license requirements.
· Typically 12+ years commercial legal experience at a law firm or in-house.
· Typically 3+ years supervisory experience.

Knowledge & Skills
· Excellent leadership and people management skills, including performance management, problem solving, and evaluation.
· Recognized authority on legal and relevant business issues in multiple practice areas in a country/region.
· Broad internal recognition as a subject matter expert on local/regional laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
· Advanced understanding of the multiple international legal environments.
· Mastery in negotiating or advising the most senior representatives of external and internal organizations on highly complex, high impact legal matters.
· Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
· English language skills to business standard required.
