The General Counsel is the chief legal officer of the University. The general counsel provides overall strategic and ethical leadership and direction for all legal matters involving the University, including trustee, faculty, student, and staff and administrator affairs; regulatory matters, risk assessment, and compliance issues (in collaboration with the President’s Cabinet and Human Resources); labor and employment litigation; and financial and research concerns. The general counsel will provide advice on sponsored programs, contract matters, including intellectual property clauses; review and develop policies and procedures related to research and intellectual property; advise on copyright and patent law; and advise on research compliance matters.
